School Psychology

Admissions Requirements Master of Science in School Psychology

  • A bachelor's degree with a minimum undergraduate cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or higher (on a 4 point scale) from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized college or university聽and
  • An acceptable score on the verbal and quantitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination No GRE required. This may be waived if the undergraduate cumulative grade point average is 3.0 or higher
  • A current resume
  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one should be from an academic source)
  • A personal statement from the candidate showing evidence of motivation to complete the degree and competency in written expression
  • Successful completion of at least 15 credits (grade C or better) of undergraduate courses in developmental psychology, abnormal psychology, theories of personality, physiological psychology, child and adolescent psychology, and tests and measurements.

You may be granted provisional status and may be allowed to register for up to 12 graduate credits pending completion of all admission requirements.

Admissions Requirements Specialist in School Psychology (SSP)

  • A master's degree in psychology or a related field with a minimum 3.4 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale) from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized college or university
  • A current resume
  • A passing score on all sections of the General Knowledge portion of the Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE)
  • Two letters of recommendation (one should be from an academic source)
  • Successful completion of at least 15 credits (grade C or better) of undergraduate courses in developmental psychology, abnormal psychology, theories of personality, physiological psychology, child and adolescent psychology, and tests and measurements.
  • A personal statement from the candidate showing evidence of motivation to complete the degree and competency in written expression

Because of the applied nature of the program and the variety of interpersonal relationships that the profession demands, successful applicants must demonstrate a high level of maturity and flexibility.

Students who lack prescribed undergraduate prerequisite courses or courses at the master's level can be admitted; however, the courses will be added to their specialist program and should be taken before any specialist-level courses are attempted, unless permission is granted by the department chair or the school psychology program coordinator.

An applicant may be granted provisional status and take up to 12 graduate credits pending completion of all admission requirements.
