Nurse Educator Certificate Program

For the RN who is interested in pursuing an academic career or clinical education position.

About the Program

The goal of the Nurse Educator Certificate Program is to prepare nurse educators who are learner-centered and responsive to the healthcare needs of society. In today鈥檚 climate of severe nursing faculty shortages, this certificate program can strengthen the capacity of future nurse educators by preparing them for significant challenges in nursing education.

The Nurse Educator Certificate is a 9-credit program of consisting of three courses - 3 credits per course:

  1. NUR 631: Learning Theory/Curriculum and Course Development
  2. NUR 639: Teaching and Learning Strategies for Classroom and Practice
  3. NUR 649: Assessment and Evaluation Strategies in Nursing Education

The Nurse Educator Certificate Program is available to the following nursing graduates:

  • BSN graduates interested in a career in nursing education
  • Graduate level nursing students who are attending a nursing program either full-time or part-time
  • Nurses with a graduate degree seeking a career in nursing education

Students completing the certificate will be eligible to sit for the National League for Nursing鈥檚 CNE® exam.

Program objectives:

  • Develop competencies fundamental to the nurse educator role
  • Recognize synergies of nursing education between academic and clinical settings
  • Utilize evidence-based teaching strategies
  • Incorporate emerging technology strategies into course development
  • Articulate curriculum development processes
  • Implement evaluation strategies for students, courses, and programs
