About the Program Nursing Practice, Post-Baccalaureate (DNP)

This practice-focused doctoral program prepares advanced practice nurses with the knowledge and skills needed to lead in today鈥檚 complex health care environment. The program is designed for registered nurses with bachelor鈥檚 degrees and offers two clinical specialization tracks: Family Nurse Practitioner and Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.聽

This technology-enhanced program is part time and spans twelve consecutive semesters, allowing students to engage in professional nursing practice and graduate studies. Students must complete a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical instruction in their specialization. Students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and judgment needed to apply for A.R.N.P. licensure in Florida and to sit the national certification examination in their chosen specialty area.

The purpose of the program is to foster the development of a community of expert advanced practice nurses who will transform practice and improve health care outcomes through the application of nursing knowledge.

Admission Requirements

Candidates are selected for admission based upon the likelihood for program completion and academic success in graduate education. These include:

  1. A Master鈥檚 degree in Nursing (MSN) from a regionally accredited or internationally recognized school.
  2. A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale in graduate study.
  3. Current license to practice as a registered nurse or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  4. Have a valid and current national certification in an advanced nursing practice specialty (which attests to the minimum clinical hours for the specialty). If applicant is not nationally certified, certification must be achieved within one year of starting the program.
  5. CV/Resume.
  6. One essay with a clear statement of goals and expectations for entering the DNP program and how the student anticipates this degree will benefit the profession of nursing and his/her community.
  7. One essay describing the type of clinical project the student plans to undertake in the DNP program.
  8. Three letters of recommendation鈥攐ne addressing clinical competence and two addressing academic ability.
