Viewing Options in the Gradebook – Hide Unpublished Assignments

POSTED: Mar. 19, 2025

Last week, we explored arranging and sorting your Gradebook.  This week we will review how to hide unpublished assignment columns to help organize or simplify your Gradebook.

By default, your Gradebook will show both published and unpublished assignments, discussions, and quizzes.  While students cannot see these unpublished assignments, they clutter the Gradebook with columns that instructors may never use.

Instructors can hide unpublished assignment columns using the Gradebook’s View Options.  Simply follow the steps below,

  1. From Course Navigation, click on the Grades link.

  2. Click on the Settings (gear) icon to open Gradebook Settings.

  3. Click the View Options tab (1), locate the Show section and uncheck the Unpublished Assignments checkbox (2), and click Apply Settings (3) to save your changes.

Hopefully this tip minimizes your scrolling time and helps you keep your Gradebook organized for easier grading.

Keep an eye out for next week’s Quick Tip, where we will discuss how to quickly identify the status of assignments in the Gradebook based on cell color and icons.
